Club History
The Jonesboro Kiwanis Club was founded in 1965 with an initial enrollment of 25 members. The club met at Butch’s Restaurant in Jonesboro for 35 years. Today, we still have two charter members active in the club: Charlie Banks and Dr. Don McMillian.
What We Do
Club Community Efforts
The Kiwanis Club of Jonesboro is dedicated to serving the community through a variety of impactful activities. Each year, we donate to the Salvation Army via a virtual Red Kettle, ring the bell for the Salvation Army during the holiday season, and contribute toy bags for their Angel Tree. We actively support education by reading to elementary school students during Read Across America Week and chartering Little Free Libraries throughout Clayton County. Our members also help keep our community clean through trash pick-ups and volunteer at community food giveaways. Additionally, we collaborate with our local Key Club on food packing projects and make monetary donations to local organizations and non-profits to further support the community.
Key Club Sponsorship
Our club sponsors a Key Club at Mundy’s Mill High School. Students complete community service projects addressing food insecurity in our community by packing lunches. We are also sponsoring an additional Key Club at Elite Scholars Academy.
Circle K Sponsorship
Our club is in the process of facilitating a Circle K club charter at Clayton State University.
